Work with us at St. James
Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker
St. James seeks a part-time, dedicated and professional Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker to coordinate the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all church buildings, grounds, and physical properties. This is an essential role that ensures a safe, neat, and well-maintained environment for our parishioners and community.
Key Responsibilities Include:
•External Building & Grounds: Ensure pristine yard areas (mowing, trimming, planting), prune trees and bushes, and keep exterior walkways and parking lots safe and clear of debris, including diligent snow and ice removal. Duties also cover minor exterior building repairs (gutters, lighting) and signage management.
•Internal Building Maintenance: Perform interior maintenance and repairs including light electrical work (bulbs, ballast changes), basic plumbing, painting, floor care, and managing security systems. Coordinate contractors for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, restoration/repair work, large equipment repair, and other specialized projects.
•Other Parish Properties: Oversee the maintenance and repairs of the Todd Center (211 S. Tracy Ave), adjacent park areas, and parking lots.
•Miscellaneous Duties: Coordinate building setups for special church events (Christmas Pageant, Annual Meeting, etc.), help manage vendor contracts and budgets, and organize volunteer service projects on grounds. Work with the Property Committee to develop a maintenance schedule and prioritize projects. This position requires 24/7 on-call availability for fire and burglar alarms.
Qualifications and Expectations:
•Experience: Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities role is required.
•Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical systems, security systems, HVAC, mechanical systems, plumbing, and general carpentry.
•Attributes: Ability to work professionally and confidentially as part of a team, supervising both outside contractors and volunteer parishioners. Ability to follow directions and communicate clearly.
•Availability: Must be available to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours as needed in addition to covering "on call" responsibilities. However, we are happy to work out hours around another job.
Note on snow removal: We do not expect to have snow removal done by a certain time beyond keeping our walkways and parking lots safe and sidewalks cleared within the 24 hour requirement by the city. The exception is Sunday mornings, when snow removal must be complete by 8 am for church.
If you are a reliable, skilled maintenance professional looking to support a vibrant church community, we encourage you to apply! This role will is scheduled to work approximately 18 hours a week at $30 per hour. Because of the nature of the job, hours may not be consistent week to week (ie slightly more or slightly fewer hours).
To apply, please send a list of three professional references and a brief resume to rector@stjamesbozeman.org.
