St. James is more than Sunday mornings!
From potlucks and parties to fellowship gatherings and service opportunities, our community comes together
in many ways throughout the week. Our Events Calendar is the best way to keep track of what we're up to!

Ministries at St. James
Click on some of the drop downs below to see what ministries St. James offers! Contact the office at office@stjamesbozeman.org to get involved.
Altar Guild
Those who are a part of the Altar Guild are the stewards of our worship space, especially the altar. They make sure that our linens are cleaned and pressed and that our silver shines so that our worship might glorify God. Work is done in pairs and is assigned on a rotating schedule by week. The preparation of the altar for worship is usually done Wednesday or Thursday mornings and then the altar, paraments, and sacred objects are cleaned and put away as needed after the later Sunday service.
AV Guild
Our congregation is not just in the building! Every Sunday, around 20 people join our worship online, either through YouTube or our website. The AV Guild manages our livestream each Sunday for our primary service and special services, such as holidays and funerals. If you can use Facebook, you have most of the skills you need to use our simple livestreaming system. We are in need of another few volunteers for this vital ministry and we will train you!
Camp Marshall
www.campmarshallmontana.org
St. James supports the ministry of Camp Marshall, the camp of the Diocese of Montana. Nestled on the south shore of Flathead Lake near Polson, Camp Marshall has been serving the children, youth, and families of our diocese since 1947. Rev. Rowan is the Senior High camp chaplain each summer and scholarship support from St. James is available if cost is a barrier to your child or family attending camp.

Chancel Choir
Logan Henke (music@stjamesbozeman.org)
Under the leadership of Logan Henke, St. James’ Director of Music, the Chancel Choir sings in worship each Sunday at our primary service. For the 2025-2026 program year, that will be the 11 am service. Even if you don’t know how to read music, or have never sung in a choir before, you are welcome to join the choir at St. James! All are welcome to learn more about choral singing by rehearsing on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings before the service. As we do not currently have a youth choir, younger singers are encouraged (and very welcome!) to join the Chancel Choir if they have an interest in singing. Contact Logan to learn more and make a joyful noise unto the Lord!

Craft Time Fellowship
Previously known as the Prayer Shawl Ministry, the Craft Time Fellowship group meets on the second Saturday of each month from 10 am to noon at St. James to spend time crafting, chatting, and nibbling on snacks. Bring whatever you’re working on and join us!
Hospitality Ministry
If you’ve ever wondered who makes the coffee for coffee hour, you’re wondering about the worker bees of our hospitality ministry! Volunteers in this ministry help with Coffee Hour and a few other special events throughout the year. Thanks to a generous donor, all supplies and snacks are purchased by St. James but we still need volunteers to set up, make the coffee, and help clean up each week. Our Coffee Hour will now be between the Sunday services, running from approximately 9:30 am to 10:55 am, to make sure that those who attend either service can share in fellowship (and snacks). We can teach you how to use the percolator and where all the supplies are. This is a great way to give back to the community!
Memorial Foundation
Founded as an independent 501(c)3 in the late 1950’s to help raise funds to purchase our current organ, the Memorial Foundation has been entrusted with gifts and bequests from parishioners over many decades. The Foundation seeks to support the parish and Vestry of St. James in various ways, especially through helping with large capital funding needs and supporting two annual scholarships for high school seniors. Foundation board members serve terms of three years. All members of St. James are also considered to be members of the Foundation.

Pastoral Care Ministry
The Pastoral Care ministry at St. James serves primarily to bring communion and companionship to homebound parishioners as well as those who, for various reasons, can’t come to church at any given point in time. Most of the members of this ministry team are licensed Lay Eucharistic Visitors, but even if you are not a LEV, you can still make phone calls and help alleviate someone’s loneliness. This ministry team meets quarterly and is always interested in trying new ways to connect with folks in our parish who feel disconnected.
Table & Grace at MSU
Formerly known as LCM, Table & Grace is an ecumenical progressive Protestant campus ministry at MSU that St. James is a proud partner of. Chaplain JP Carlson is the best point of contact for MSU students interested in learning more or coming to the weekly Wednesday dinner and worship service on Wednesdays at 7 pm at the Christus Collegium (714 S. 8th Ave) as well as other events throughout the week and school year. Table & Grace is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
Venture Crew
St. James is proud to be the home of Venture Crew 2526. A program of Scouting America, Venture Crews are made up of youth aged 14-21 who are interested in leadership development, adventure, and other scouting activities and are open to all genders. Our Venture Crew meets on Thursday evenings in the Scout Room at St. James. Contact Deana to learn more!
Vestry
The Vestry of St. James is the leadership body of the parish. While many don’t consider this work to be a ministry, we certainly do at St. James! If your gifts and skills lend themselves to helping advance the work of a small non-profit community organization, we need you! From bylaws to bank statements, the Vestry oversees the day to day operations of St. James and makes decisions on behalf of the parish. We elect Vestry members for 3 year terms each year at Annual Meeting in January. Our Senior Warden is appointed for a one year term and our Junior Warden and Treasurer are elected for a one year term each, all with a term limit of two years. Each fall, we begin the process of nominating members of the parish for a role on the Vestry and if you are interested in learning more about serving in this important capacity, please talk to Jessica, our current Senior Warden and let her know.
Worship Ministry
Lectors, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, and Ushers
Our Sunday worship is made possible by help from lay ministers like you! Lectors read the lessons and lead the Prayers of the People while Lay Eucharistic Ministers help serve the chalice at communion. Ushers are the glue that hold everything (and everyone) together by helping greet people as they arrive to worship, making sure the sanctuary is hospitable, and helping to answer any questions folks may have. Lay Eucharistic Ministers must be licensed through the diocese, which is a slightly more involved process, but anyone can be a Lector or Usher with a little training! Reach out to Juliana in the office (office@stjamesbozeman.org) to be connected with the right folks to learn and get added to Ministry Scheduler Pro, the software we use to sign up for worship ministry roles.
